The Rise of Yanni Hufnagel

There are many hats that a college basketball coach must wear. Everything from coaching and recruiting to managing a program are included in the coaches responsibilities. Yanni Hufnagel has proven that he can manage these responsibilities very well. Hufnagel has built a reputation as an excellent recruiter and bas demonstrated the ability to help develop some of the best players around.

 

Hufnagel’s career began in Scarsdale, New York. After being cut from his high school basketball team, he quickly tried broadcasting. From there Hufnagel began coaching at Oklahoma University. As a graduate assistant he had the opportunity to work with some great players including current NBA professional Blake Griffin. Throughout his career, Hufnagel had the chance to work with a number of talented players including Jeremy Lin, Wesley Saunders and Matthew Fisher-Davis. It was during this time that Hufnagel developed a great reputation as a recruiter. His ability to relate to players on a personal level earned him great success.

 

During his stay at Harvard, Hufnagel had the opportunity to work with former Duke star Tommy Amaker. Hufnagel was so successful that his peers soon recognized his work. In 2011 he was voted as the mid-major assistant coach most likely to succeed as a result of recruiting. Throughout Hufnagel’s career he has also had the opportunity to work with great coaches like Cuonzo Martin, Kevin Stallings and Eric Musselman.

 

Currently working as an assistant coach and Nevada University, Hufnagel continues to excel in his field. With such an impressive resume, he is almost certain to be on many head coaching list in the near future. His work has been recognized by well known and respected names in college hoops such as analyst Seth Greenberg and Duke assistant coach Jeff Capel. Expect to see Hufnagel running a college program in the near future.
